v0.7.0, now with an all-new player engine

Blamscamp served its purpose but I kept running into its limitations and getting around them was getting too annoying, and there’s a few accessibility-related things I deeply dislike about Scritch, so I ended up writing my own player engine for Bandcrash, called Camptown. It’s visually patterned more closely after Bandcamp’s player, but also allows lyrics and track information in the embedded player (which Bandcamp only does on their native album pages), and also has a bunch of usability/accessibility affordances that I don’t typically see in web-based audio players.

Anyway I think it’s pretty nice, and you can see it on Novembeat 2021 and Songs of Substance.

Another thing to note is that now albums can link to the canonical sources. For now I just have those pointing at the Bandcamp things because there’s still advantages to having Bandcamp as my primary sales venue, but since I control the domains I can easily redirect stuff in the future if things go south. (And people who don’t do that always have the option of just, like, re-uploading with the new canonical URLs.)

Anyway, please try it out. It addresses a lot of huge complaints people have had about the ancient version of Blamscamp I was using (especially the lack of volume control).

Unfortunately the actual Bandcrash GUI has gotten cluttered and obnoxious, so my next steps will be to refactor that and clean it up somewhat. I already have a plan, but I’m also starting to run out of steam and hit a chronic pain wall so that might be a while before I get to it. Things are functional, at least.
